A bit on Life:

"Yup, it's partly human connection. I like the trust involved, and to me, it is also a learning process. Learning how to stand in the shoes of others, relate to their experiences, and learning how to analyze the situations, and offer advice.

People don't do these things today because they don't know how to. Advancement in this world has caused us to rely too much on technology, which results in the lost of the human touch. As you may have already felt this: People today are generally very narrow-minded. They see things from their own perspective. They don't see the fundamentals of life today. They can't stand in the shoes of others and relate to their experiences. This is because they don't think enough, don't think about many things in life and how they do things. Jack Reacher said this in one of the books: Look, don't see; Listen, don't hear (Quite true. Many people see and hear, but don't really know how to look and listen). This is about communication, and see that it is lacking in many relationships and families. And of course, you see problems arising.

...

You see many people being blinded by materialistic pursuits. They are not wrong, it's just that they are not seeing things in the right perspectives. They don't see the fundamentals of happiness and life. They let their pursuits control their lives. If you can control your pursuits (materialistic or not), you will be happy (whether you succeed or fail). They push all their incompetencies (in their mindsets) to the faults of people around them (that these people fail to do this and that). They are not grateful for what they had in the past, not contented with what they have now, and not thinking what they can do for themselves. The clearest signs of these are all the national debates about foreigners, housing, and transport issues. It is not that existing plans are so perfect that no debates are needed. It's just that these things are not being looked at in the right way. (I'm not sure if you are want to discuss politics, so I try not to touch on too much here)."

This is why i like communicating with others over the net.
So much insight; so much food for thought.
I suppose i'm a glutton in nearly every aspect of life. For knowledge, for love, for actual food...haha!

Lazy Sunday(and some blurbs)

Lives 3 Page 17

"Lives", by the author of Battle Royale.
I love his art; even more so the meaningful words in them!
'You will receive nourishment from the soiled fighting of a sad world / And blossom into a single beautiful flower'.
That sums up what i've been travelling towards attaining these days; becoming someone my parents and i can be well and truly proud of.

Anyway, preachy verses aside:

Had a late lunch with my mum today! :))) Honestly, this was the first time in quite a while(ever since the new semester of school, actually) that i've sat down to enjoy a slow, relaxed meal with my mother. We had tomato soup and garlic bread-to digress a bit, i don't think i'll ever eat tomato soup without being reminded of spaghetti sauce-and the garlic bread was good; crunchy yet soft within the crusts and the garlic butter was tangible!
Her spaghetti was good and my bagel(smoked salmon and cream cheese) was nice. Horlicks ice cream afterwards!
Now everyone knows why i can never lose weight successfully. LOL.

Chilled with dad over a LOTR movie afterwards! Honestly though, he only likes it for the moving, fighting tree-people. I suspect his inner kid's fascinated by the very notion of moving, fighting trees! Adorable. XD Pardon my pasar-malam house slippers.

Have more CNY food pics but am too lazy, so...

 <- and then, camwhoring. Haha!
I really want to do something to my hair, like perm it-thinking bottom curls!-and either dying it brown and blonde(i really like blond, it seems like such a carefree, light, happy colour to have! Brown to frame my face, because i'm unsure of how full-out blonde would look on me ><)or dip-dying it purple and then perming the bottoms!
Then again, realistically speaking, all this pampering would have to occur after i successfully land a job. LOL.

On another topic, i resurfaced from the depths of polytechnic studies to find that our country's been immersed in politics. And how.

(This excerpt was taken from Facebook)
Dear fellow Singaporeans. Please spare a moment to read this touching comment...

"I was at Hong Lim with my 5month old daughter on Saturday. I really wanted to voice out my opinions but the rain took a toll on my little girl and I had to leave.

I feel that it is an injustice done to us when the media and the government try to paint a picture whereby we are xenophobics or racists. But honestly, we have been welcoming our foreign friends for decades; working hand in hand with them, forging friendships. However the problem that has arisen is that we are afraid of OVERPOPULATING. Not that we want to close our doors to foreign talent. I understand that foreign talents are necessary in the growth of our economy, but shouldn't there be a line drawn so as not to upset the balance?

In a previous comment, I had made a few examples; I have a personal friend who has just given birth a few months ago, and as the government had stated, we are ENTITLED to a 3month maternity leave. However, my friend had to place her baby in the care of a stranger and head back to work after just one month. Why? Because her boss had told her that if she had no intention of working, he could replace her easily with a CHINA worker who would cost much lower than the salary she was wielding. What has caused such a precarious situation? It seems that foreign labour is so cheap that it is damaging our own rice bowls. Isn't this a problem?

Another example was an article I read recently which exposed of a top educational institution in Singapore who rejected our own SINGAPOREAN children and accepted PRC STUDENTS because their parents were able to contribute greatly to the school funds. Is there no cause of fear for my children's future?! Will my children be deprived of a proper education just because I cannot afford to bribe the school?

The government keeps talking about helping young couples. Well, here is coming from ground zero. I'm sure we do appreciate the extra increment in the baby bonus, but how significant would that be? With the cost of living going up, when we can barely afford a HDB flat, when child care and preschool fees are shooting sky high, how much can the extra $2k help us? Somebody posted a retort on Facebook saying that our foreign expat friends can afford one or two private houses while Singaporeans are struggling with one HDB flat. And yet, so much land is invested in building condominiums and private houses. Who are they for?!

Maternity and paternity leave encouraged by the government yet young parents are afraid that if they take longer leave, they will be replaced by foreigners.

And also, the whole scheme that has been proposed to help young couples seems to be targeted at the middle income group. How about the lower income group? I know of a few fathers who, instead of having a full time job, work several part time jobs just to earn a higher salary. Yet these benefits do not apply to them? Not to mention the f&b nightlife industry, the maritime industry, the technical industry and all other special jobs are not entitled to all these extra help! And these are the people who require it most.

I had a suggestion that I wrote into my MP before but I never got a reply. Why not try having an infant/child care at all the major corporations like in the USA? Or at least a childcare centre for every area in Singapore and not just the HDB hubs with higher children population? I have several friends who are young mothers who all appreciated the idea of having their children nearer to them when they work. They can even pop by and check on their children during their office lunch hours. Wouldn't that be a better investment to look at rather to spend our people's money on FIREWORKS? And having childcare available even in the quieter areas might boost baby births as the couples might just realize the convenience and not have to worry about finding a babysitter or a childcare centre which is far away from their home!

Another question that has been on my mind is that politics be politics, but shouldn't the PAP work hand in hand with our opposition parties to provide the best for our people?! What I see is bitterness and sarcasm and sour grapes from the PAP especially in the recent Punggol event. Why should our citizens suffer for the governmental competition?

Another article I came across that surprised me was the comment made by the minister saying that our men; our brothers, fathers, husbands who serve NS should make our foreign friends feel safe and create a sense of security for them? Our brave men give up TWO years of their lives to learn to protect their families, not strangers.

Sometimes I don't even bother keeping up with the parliament as I feel that our PAP speakers, especially the new ones, seem to not make sense when they speak. I understand that they're a bunch of elite scholars who have studied so high up, greatly educated. Yet what we need are leaders who listen to us, who understand where we are coming from.

Like the minister who said that it is possible to survive on a wage of $1000 a month and afford a HDB. If you want to prove a point, show it in action. Don't just talk only. Why wouldn't he give up his luxurious lifestyle and show us how he survives on $1000 for maybe a timeframe of just half a year?

We don't need the PAP to tell us "oh the statistics say it is possible" or "research and analysis shows that this can be done". We are humans, not robots.

I have a friend who has 7 children. Her husband had left her, and she has to look after her aging mother. She works two jobs and takes home a salary of $1000 plus. Yet she has been surviving all this while without help from the government. THESE are the people who have the right to say "hey look, it is possible!" Not a minister who has been living comfortably all his life.

I do not know how to run a government, neither do I know how to run a country. But I know how to run my family. And Singaporeans are one big family. And we are just protecting our family."

It worries me that these people, with so little humility and so much 'pig-headedness', are in charge of our country. It is a small one, but it is home to so many of us. Their obstinacy in resisting to yield and listen to the views of the very people they vowed and pledged to 'protect, nurture and take care of' has shown me why so many Singaporeans have opted to leave our home country and perhaps, why some even virulently hate our Minister Mentor LKY.
Of course, i'm but a young adult muddling around in the shallow depths of these politics; i can't delve in depth. What do i really know?
Yet, who wouldn't be worried for our own futures and the future of our loved ones???

Guess i should be aiming to earn at least SG$750,000 by the grand old age of 45 and migrate to some other country with my parents and family to live a cushy, more liberal and less stifling environment then.
Sigh. Our very own motherland. What's Singapore coming to??

Young adult, now.

Time to start being an adult(albeit a young one).
I've never been this stressed, even for the exams.

Calculated my monthly expenses; they total $480, exclusive of miscellaneous expenses(like outings, shopping,  good food-not that i see myself enjoying any soon after yesterday's, lol!).

Thus shall start the job hunt.
And the beginning of my portfolio.
Hup!

Recovery!! (relieving exam-trauma)

After one exam:

Drinks at Raffles Marina Country Club were So Good!! If i lived nearby Tuas i would've been an alcoholic sooner or later, honestly. Or actually, 'sooner' might be more apt for now, since i'm beginning to grow into alcohol. LOL.
SG$9.90 for that tiny shot of Baileys. It was so good though, i would have it twice next time i go back there!

Then, the very last day of school.
To be honest, as much as i dread those tedious lessons and tutorials, i would've liked to have experienced it again. So strange, but at that time, when you know all those times that were routine to you for the past 3 years are about to become a memory you suddenly begin to treasure it more.
Bittersweet nostalgia in this case, haha!
As things turned out, only an hour of school was had. HAHA! K and i met up at FEP to do our nails firstand were joined by S. later! Then, breakfast at Ya Kun Kaya toast :)) and Domino's pizza with K and L afterwards. BEST PIZZA EVER!

Anyway, after yet another exam:
Prelude to the feast we would have afterwards.

And then: END OF EXAMS!
<- Killer boots...literally. Back of both feet all skinned and sore since Wednesday.      <- K: "Take a photo of this it looks like a huge bird invading SG!" LOL
Dinner with the whole gang afterwards at this delicious Indonesian restaurant (instead of serving you normal cooked, perhaps-a-little-tough chicken, the cooks here tenderize the meat using the back and sides of the cleavers to make the meat more tender and firm! It's 'Smashed Chicken' apparently. :) ).
S and L had to go afterwards, so K., S.H and i headed to Red Dot at Raffles. It was okay :)

And yesterday:

K with the girls and this Delicious meal of prata afterwards! The restaurant's called 'Prata Wala', super delicious. Still the minutest bit bummed about not being able to get my hoody(all sold out! ): ) but ytd was really fun! And the room was really spacious(plus the drinks were nice!). One of the more fun experiences i've had in a KBox i guess :)

And today:
 Bigass fish!

Xiao Long Baos at Paradise Dynasty, an impromptu round of K and a new purse from Plaza Singapura and finally-The Shining. From Liang Court where we went for k. :)
I'm especially stoked about the book because i've been searching for it since 10! Always wanted to read it ever since my then-tuition teacher(who was twice my age)asked me how i could bear reading Stephen King's works; apparently he stopped mid-way through The Shining because it really creeped him out.
I guess i'm more of a visual creature, because images of scary things spook me more, haha!
Anyway, am going to spend tomorrow reading this beauty after jogging. I've piled on the pounds during CNY and the exam period! ):

On another note, it's ironic that i'm facing more stress now after graduation as opposed to the exam-period. Granted i slacked a whole lot( a LOT) during the latter, but the woes of a young adult have officially began to crash down upon me.
I know at 19-20 this year-, i should have my own job and be supporting myself financially now. However, i really don't think it's much to ask for at least a week of rest before getting a job though. I seriously don't get why my mum can't just let me rest before venturing out in the working world...can't i just have some time and space to adjust my mentality-from that of a relatively carefree, fun-loving student to a more serious, hardworking one appropriate to any young adult about to work to support herself?
Perhaps it sounds really spoilt, compared to others who have it tough; those working to pay their own school fees; working to support their families and themselves... but each to their own pace, i believe.

Hopefully K. and i would successfully land that job at Cisco in the airport in March soon.
Happy Hour after a certain time!
Fun and laughter during the job!
Oh and DUTY FREE SHOPPING.
:DD Enough to make any girl squeal! Hahaha.

...on a side-note, i'd better get started on that portfolio for Laselle tomorrow as well.
Sigh.

Nights y'all! :)
