I do so like a bon mot that makes you stop and think...

Evolution has taught us all well how to spot a predator, and we fear them for our lives--and for good reason.

This is really interesting to me; that is, exactly how it works that we recognize someone who's potentially dangerous. I know I've gotten creepy "vibes" from people who I barely knew and seemed quite nice on the surface, which were eventually proven right. I'd love to know some scientific reasoning behind what exactly triggers these feelings. We're such complex social creatures.

I would, too. I imagine r/cogsci might be useful to that end.
If I may put forth some seemingly relevant thing, I recall reading that a great deal of people's mannerisms are signs of submissiveness and non-aggression. So, without the proper signs of non-aggression, I speculate, we interpret someone's motives as sinister.

That sounds reasonable- I'm sure there are tons of subtle cues that we're all constantly processing subconsciously, and when some of them are absent or unexpected, it results in "creepy vibes". Thanks for the subreddit link!
